6 Simple Cancer Prevention Tips

As you may already know along with my designation as a Registered Nutritional Practitioner and Registered Orthomolecular Health Practitioner I am also a Certified Holistic Cancer Practitioner (CHCP). I am passionate about helping us learn ways to support our body to prevent a cancer diagnoses as well as, how to better support our bodies when we experience a cancer diagnoses.

According the Canadian Cancer Society the most recent statistics indicate that it is estimated that in 2015:

With this in mind, what can we do to lessen our chances of experiencing this diagnosis? The following are 6 ways to support optimal health.

1. Decrease Inflammation: Inflammation is a powerful weapon within our Immune system designed to destroy enemies such as bacteria, injured cells, and environmental irritants. Without it we may never survive beyond birth. Inflammation is also known to possess a split personality. If inflammation is left to run rampant it can wreak havoc on our bodies. The following herbal supplements can help to keep inflammation in check. Food supplements such as Turmeric, Curcumin the extract from Turmeric, Boswelia, Burdock root, Dandelion, Cloves, Ginger and Rosemary.

2. Increase our levels of beneficial bacteria: Probiotics assist our immune system to function at its best. When our immune system is at its best it can detect and kill cells that can become cancerous. (see previous blog on the benefits of probiotics).

3. Optimize Vitamin D levels: Numerous studies have linked optimal vitamin D3 levels with lower cancer risks specifically colon, breast, prostate and skin.

4. Optimal Iodine consumption: Your immune system cannot function without Iodine. You can’t fight infections without Iodine. Iodine’s main job is to the support the endocrine glands including the thyroid, breast, ovaries, uterus and prostate. The other great thing is that Iodine has apoptotic properties meaning it can stop cancer cells from continually dividing. (more to come in future blogs about this essential element)

5. Proper Elimination: Constipation can be a result of diet or lifestyle factors such as a lack of enzymes, beneficial bacteria in the gastrointestinal system, not eating enough fiber, dehydration, stress and not going when you need to. If you do not eliminate the waste material you created each day it will be absorbed back into your system. No one appreciates a backed up sewage system. If you are backed up there are natural ways to support daily elimination including but not limited to slippery elm, apple pectin, probiotics and digestive enzymes.

6. Decrease refined sugars in the diet: Who doesn’t love a sweet treat just remember excess sugar not only increases inflammation in the body but encourages weight gain especially among the mid-section. Neither inflammation or excess weight are beneficial to longevity so although we like to consider sugar a treat it should be considered a threat to our health and be consumed in small quantities. Until next time, here’s hoping that you feel more empowered to make better decisions about your health! Helping to Bring your body into BALANCE!
